YW COVERSTAR: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH EBANGHA NJANG.

She can easily be confused for a model with her striking looks and her signature androgynous fabulous style. So…are these some of the factors that make Ebangha Njang standout? It was her media presence that first caught my attention. On Facebook and Twitter, she was always going hard, promoting Cameroonian artists. It was really refreshing to see the love and support she was pouring into the Cameroon music industry. How could one not notice? Around the time we were gearing up for our next Coverstar feature, I received a message from Ebangha “Hello I’ve been following your blog for a while now. I think y’all amazing.” At that moment, I felt she was a genie and had just granted my wish because little did she know that she was at the top of the few people we had in mind to be featured on the next cover. We immediately took that as a sign and violà! YW’s latest coverstar. Yvonne Ebangha Njang was born and raised in Douala and Edéa respectively. Her dad( who worked with the Ministry of Agriculture) and her mum( a Housewife), instilled discipline and the fear of God in her and five siblings at very young ages. Being a close knit family, her childhood was filled with fun family times, including relaxing by the River Sanaga, watching favourite cartoons and attending church on Sundays. That makes for an exciting childhood, doesn’t it? But it wasn’t exactly the same when it came to her teenage years. “My teenage years didn’t mean much to me honestly. I know it’s hard to believe lol but i was a...

YW COVERSTAR: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH JOAN NGOMBA…PART TWO.

PART TWO.  YW Thanks Joan for granting YW this interview. Please introduce yourself to the readers. Who’s Joan Ngomba? JN The pleasure is all mine Yenih. My name is Joan Ngomba. I’m a Media Personality in Cameroon. I’m founder of www.dcodedtv.com and producer/host of an upcoming urban entertainment TV show called DCODED TV Show. Both platforms are created to promote and celebrate entertainment and entertainers in/from Cameroon. YW You said media was never in your plans. You studied History and Archaeology at the University of Buea. What were your career plans? JN I wanted to be a historian. I love history and how I use it to tell stories or solve today’s problems. But when I left UB, my dreams changed. I was hit with a tragedy that changed my life plans. I just found myself loving and aspiring to be into media. YW You moved to Nigeria after a very sad event that happened to your family and it was there that you realised you wanted to work in radio. Tell us how that came about? JN I lost my 17-yr-old sister to a fatal car accident in 2007. An incident which left me suicidal and completely confused. I lost the zeal to be alive. So I resigned from my job as a Personal Assistant to Mr. Ewane Ngaaje, DG of JENS Productions Ltd (An Architecture Company in Limbe) and told myself there’s no reason to work when there was no reason to be alive. However, I had some friends...

NEW MUSIC VIDEO: THIS IS AFRICA(TIA) BY NABIL4REAL FT PAZZO.

NEW MUSIC VIDEO: THIS IS AFRICA(TIA) BY NABIL4REAL FT PAZZO.

Cameroonian music keeps breaking airwaves worldwide. It’s been such a proud moment these past years for Camroonians all over to see their artists on global platforms, receiving awards. Cameroonian artists have dabbled with sounds and finally identified their position in the new fast growing African music industry. We must say, we’re all happy with the results. It’s so refreshing to hear hits back-to-back from our artists and Nabil has just added another to the catalogue. In this song, Nabil4Real keeps it very real with his lyrics while taking us on a musical memory lane. The intro reminds me of Pierre Didy Tchakounte’s Magabe Sophistique. The ever-present sanza instrument(contri piano) in the background warns your heart while the lyrics put a smile on your face “…we no get passport for take we go dey but when you go dey, you go find we for dey…”Baam!!! The video brings out the TIA concept really well, blending the cultural and the modern. The end of the video gives you a good taste of Nabil, the actor…very hilarious. Fantastic song…fantastic video…sorry for bringing this 2 weeks late. <iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/lnjXs-1vcqo” frameborder=”0″...
MYRA MAIMOH IS HERE TO EMPOWER AND ENRICH SOULS IN A ‘UNIQ’ WAY.

MYRA MAIMOH IS HERE TO EMPOWER AND ENRICH SOULS IN A ‘UNIQ’ WAY.

There’s always something consistently refreshing about Myra Maimoh’s sound and that’s its ability to uplift the spirit. In an industry where all we hear about is chicks here…money there…bad belle everywhere, Myra’s message and soothing voice nicely take us away from the chaos and bring us to the core of what’s most important. I’m sweetly reminded that even though these issues may be prevalent in our society, empowerment, enrichment and all-day-everyday positivity are just the tools I need for a better society. Her message communicates with the heart, her sound uplifts the spirit…no wonder Celia Faussart of Les Nubians called her the Cameroonian Jill Scott and Franck Biyong, artists who passionately use their music and diverse sounds to spread social consciousness.   With her latest album ‘Uniq’, one is instantly serenaded with that familiar uplifting feeling. To better understand this, you have to read the review below which gives you a detailed breakdown of each song.   SIX WAYS TO HANDLE ADVERSITY, APPRECIATE IDENTITY & CELEBRATE TRIUMPH WITH MYRA MAIMOH   Myra’s sophomore album Uniq is now released and available on all major online platforms and it is quite the masterpiece for many different reasons. Very rarely does an artist try to, and succeed in accomplishing so many things in a 6 song EP.   We are taken to the very essence of who the artist is, and what her musical range and influences have been. A marked departure from her first album, Uniq tells a compelling story of power through adversity and identifying one’s voice and identity; you get the feeling Myra is singing as much to herself...
