COVERSTAR: YW EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW AND VIDEO WITH JOAN NGOMBA.

PART ONE. I believe our subconscious minds take us where our conscious minds resist to go. She always loved writing so all she wanted to be was a Historian. She was determined to be just that so much so that she ended up studying History and Archaeology at the University of Buea. So what would actually change the course of a determined ‘Historian’ in the making? Here’s the story about the media journey of Joan Ngomba, a TV presenter, Producer, Writer,Blogger and a Fashionista. Just after university, Joan had found a job as a secretary for JENS production when a major tragedy stroke. Joan lost her last sister in a ghastly car accident, she was only 17. Having to deal with such devastating loss, Joan found herself completely lost, not knowing how to pull through with life. She had few friends in Nigeria who encouraged her to come over for a change. With the support from her friends and determination to pull through, Joan set off for Nigeria in 2007. When she got to Lagos, her friends again encouraged her to apply for a post graduate course which she agreed to. She applied waited for the entrance results. Still feeling down, Joan moved to Calabar to be with her cousin. It was while there that she had an ‘Aha!’ moment. There was this particular show on Rhythm FM that caught her attention . It was presented by Wild Child and when it came on, she was gripped instantly. He was so good and there and then Joan realised she wanted a career in radio, just like Wild Child’s.Despite having...

COVER STAR: YW VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH DUWA.

Whenever Tosin,Milounge boss, starts a conversation with “YO!”,I just know something is about to pop. I had been woken by my ringtone on this particular morning. It was Tosin on the line, all excited like he’s just come face-to-face with a gold mine. He was about to send over a song by this incredible artist for me to listen. Once the audio came through, I pressed play and was transported into a delightful musical world and once her voice came on, my ears instantly did somersaults…my excitement levels went off the roof.   After that, I knew I had to get to know this superstar soundbox even more. Once I got her contact, we got talking on whatsapp. If ever you get talking to Duwa, you quickly realise why her sound is so dreamily beautiful. She’s soft-spoken, respectful and widely and finely skilled to know exactly how she wants to present herself and music to the world. Born Glory Ojoduwa on the 29th of August, 1988 to Nigerian parents in the United States of America. Growing up in Washington DC, Duwa always had an irresistible love for music. Her parents recognised her talent at a very early age and her dad would record home videos of little Duwa singing down a storm. That love propelled her to join the children’s choir and then youth choir where she did lead solos and also conducted the choir. Off in college where she studied Mass Communication and Media Integration, she also sang in a college band which helped ignite her love for music even more. Because of this irresistible love for music...

NEW MUSIC VIDEO: THIS IS AFRICA(TIA) BY NABIL4REAL FT PAZZO.

Cameroonian music keeps breaking airwaves worldwide. It’s been such a proud moment these past years for Camroonians all over to see their artists on global platforms, receiving awards. Cameroonian artists have dabbled with sounds and finally identified their position in the new fast growing African music industry. We must say, we’re all happy with the results. It’s so refreshing to hear hits back-to-back from our artists and Nabil has just added another to the catalogue. In this song, Nabil4Real keeps it very real with his lyrics while taking us on a musical memory lane. The intro reminds me of Pierre Didy Tchakounte’s Magabe Sophistique. The ever-present sanza instrument(contri piano) in the background warns your heart while the lyrics put a smile on your face “…we no get passport for take we go dey but when you go dey, you go find we for dey…”Baam!!! The video brings out the TIA concept really well, blending the cultural and the modern. The end of the video gives you a good taste of Nabil, the actor…very hilarious. Fantastic song…fantastic video…sorry for bringing this 2 weeks late. <iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/lnjXs-1vcqo” frameborder=”0″...

MUST-SEE VIDEO: OMOJUWA’S INTUITION COMES TO LIVE IN NEW REMY MARTIN CAMPAIGN.

“Why be one thing when you can be many”…that’s the powerful rhetorical question Japheth Omojuwa asked at the end of the video. Remy Martin recently unveiled #OneLifeLiveThem campaign which celebrates people pursuing multiple passions and being that Japheth Omojuwa is ‘Jack of all trade, master of all’, it didn’t come as a surprise when he was unveiled as one of the influencers. A few moments ago, Omojuwa released the campaign video on his Instagram page The video kicked off with the Nigerian blogger giving a heartfelt speech which could be heard through out the campaign. While the video outlined some of Omojuwa’s titles, they used to be just ideas in his head. But Japheth truly believed he was destined for greater things, to change his community,to change his country  and we’ve all seen and still continue to watch him  change Nigeria’s story, being a proud ambassador of Nigeria to the world. Whether a blogger or a public speaker or an ideologist, Japheth Omojuwa always strives for excellence in all of them. MYRA MAIMOH IS HERE TO EMPOWER AND ENRICH SOULS IN A ‘UNIQ’ WAY.

There’s always something consistently refreshing about Myra Maimoh’s sound and that’s its ability to uplift the spirit. In an industry where all we hear about is chicks here…money there…bad belle everywhere, Myra’s message and soothing voice nicely take us away from the chaos and bring us to the core of what’s most important. I’m sweetly reminded that even though these issues may be prevalent in our society, empowerment, enrichment and all-day-everyday positivity are just the tools I need for a better society. Her message communicates with the heart, her sound uplifts the spirit…no wonder Celia Faussart of Les Nubians called her the Cameroonian Jill Scott and Franck Biyong, artists who passionately use their music and diverse sounds to spread social consciousness.   With her latest album ‘Uniq’, one is instantly serenaded with that familiar uplifting feeling. To better understand this, you have to read the review below which gives you a detailed breakdown of each song.   SIX WAYS TO HANDLE ADVERSITY, APPRECIATE IDENTITY & CELEBRATE TRIUMPH WITH MYRA MAIMOH   Myra’s sophomore album Uniq is now released and available on all major online platforms and it is quite the masterpiece for many different reasons. Very rarely does an artist try to, and succeed in accomplishing so many things in a 6 song EP.   We are taken to the very essence of who the artist is, and what her musical range and influences have been. A marked departure from her first album, Uniq tells a compelling story of power through adversity and identifying one’s voice and identity; you get the feeling Myra is singing as much to herself...
