YW COVERSTAR: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH KRYSMAR…PART ONE.

I sat down with my notebook in hand, ready to make that call to Krysmar. I had been thinking about this day for a while. Though I had never spoken to Krysmar, through her work, we had forged an acquaintanceship or should I say fanship on my part, full of admiration for her talent. Come on! She sings like a Nightingale, what’s there not to admire? And I was ready to dig into the core of her talent. Krysmar whose full name is Christelle-Mirielle Menekeu, is an Afropop/soul artist from Cameroon. She hails from Nchang, West Cameroon but was born in Douala, the Economic Capital of Cameroon. At a very young age, the singer moved with her family to Libreville, Gabon where she attended primary school. Krysmar was always surrounded by music. By the age of nine, she was already singing anything that sounded like a tune, be it musical adverts or news or series soundtracks. Her parents quickly noticed her talent. Little Christelle possessed such a big voice and she knew she wanted to sing like her idol, the legendary Whitney Houston but her parents wanted her to sing for God and so they took her straight to church where she joined the Children’s choir, just like her idol. After her primary education, her family moved back to Cameroon where she contined her education in Douala. They later on relocated to the North where she continued her secondary school education at the Lycee Technique, Ngaoundere. While there, Krysmar joined the school choir and was made the President of the Music Club. After her BAC( Baccalareat), Krysmar made the decision...

YENIHSDELITES: FISH AND CHIPS WITH MUSHY PEAS AND AFRICAN STYLE GRAVY.

It was a cook-anything-you-can-find-in-your-kitchen kinda day again. It had been snowing non-stop since the start of the week. UK was under the white attack my people. They said it was the aftermath of a dry, frigid air from Siberia and they named it ‘The Beast From The East’ and it really showed up and showed out. Mr Beast from the East brought some chilling friends along for the snowy ride…the rain, the wind, the cold, the White Walkers and Jon Snow…mscheeeew!!! Anywhooo, what I’m trying to say is, because of the snow, we were stuck at home with only some few food items here and there….frozen fish here…frozen peas there…so what do you do? I psyched myself and finally got out of bed, got ready and walked into the kitchen feeling like a lifesaver on Survival Island. I whipped out the ingredients and food items from the cupboards and freezer and before I knew it, this beauty was staring back at me, looking all yummy and ready to be eaten. Fried Fish(in batter and coated with cornflakes crumbs), using coconut oil and chips with mushy peas and gravy(black beans and chickpeas in shito peppered stew). That’s how this concoction came about last Wednesday....

BLACKENICIOUS GLOW UNCOVER’D: SILKY GIFTY.

When I started the Blackenicious Glow campaign, my goal was to showcase and celebrate the beauty of the black skin through my social media platforms. Through the platforms, I’ve been able to celebrate black beauties from around the world. It gives me so much joy to continue to celebrate and take it further with BLACKENICIOUS GLOW UNCOVER’D, where we’ll not only celebrate our black beauties but also get to know them better.  That being said, we kick off  BGU with Silky Gifty, the sassy, crazy, fun and just all round badass baldie, boldie blackenicous glow from Lagos, Nigeria.   Eno-Obong Etim Effiong, who goes by the name Silky Gifty, is a vibrant personality who follows her own rules and is not afraid to express herself whether on social media or off. Silky hails from Akwa Ibom State and was born and raised in Cross River State, Nigeria. She’s the fourth of six children and lost her father at a very tender age. She and her siblings were raised by a strong mother who was always about love and discipline. “I was a very stubborn child. I didn’t make the job easier for her but she didn’t spare the rod.” She taught them the importance of education but most importantly, the importance of hard work. The latter has been her principle till this day so it’s no surprise that she has hands dipped in numerous pots. Silky Gifty is not only a filmmaker(Actor, Producer and Script Writer), this talented lady is also a model, dressmaker(still learning) and a caterer. In fact, during our first chat, I caught her at a...

NDOLOMIX: THE FACE OF LOVE WITHOUT SEX.

I was just thinking about this year’s valentine’s day and how much I enjoyed it. Celebrating this special day has evolved over the years and so have I. Like most people in a committed relationship, we want our love to grow along with everything; sexlife, success, and more family. So even though I am not particular about Vdays, I was pondering what love has been like on “non-holidays”.  There are so many days when we have shared overwhelming love for each other from just a moment together. For example, the other night he brought home a chocolate covered cake for me from Lila’s, a new bakery in bonapriso that I wanted to check out. I’ll say just the gesture itself opened me up and I spilled my love to him as I enjoyed the cake. The moment was just perfect, listening to music, eating the deliciously sweet cake and going deeper into our conversation. Later, I felt so thoroughly massaged inside that I slept off instantly. I woke up the next day certain I can choose that version of closeness over even sex. In terms of feeling, a moment  like that to me is way stronger, way deeper than sex. So what if sex was taken out? No problem, because I believe that love is a feeling and there are many other things that bring us a shared feeling of love for each other. We focus on the things that unify us with the same intensity. That feeling of not wanting to be with anyone else, of following our own hearts each day. Communication is key. The conversations in...

BIG HAIR DON’T CARE.

2018 saw the premiere of Love and Hip-Hop Miami and everyone is still going on about the Afrolicious queen, Amara La Negra. Her beauty, her body and that haurrrrr gurrrl! Speaking of the hair, Amara was mocked by one of her cast mate on LHHM,  Young Hollywood, because of her big  luscious Afro hair. In order to break the American music market, he asked her to be ‘more Beyonce and less Macy Gray.’ He explained that the sleek look is more appealing and suitable than the big afro…whaaat? Anywhooo, we can’t blame him. He’s only following in the footsteps of a society where anything black, from hair to skin tone, has ignorantly pushed to the back…always. They see the black skin as unappealing and the Afro hair as untamed. We’re not here for it. Yenihsworld promotes the beauty of the black skin and the afroliciousness of the our hair texture, short, big and untamed. Afro hair/Big hair/Lion mane has always been sexy. It symbolises strength, confidence, freedom and most especially beauty. Today on our platform, we’re celebrating Amara and many of our sisters in media/entertainment who are influencing the world while rocking their afros with so much sassiness  and class. Amara La Negra, Afro-Latina singer and Love and Hip Hop Miami cast member.   Sahndra Fon Dufe, Cameroonian actress, author and activist.   Joan Ngomba, Cameroonian presenter, producer, blogger and founder of Dcoded TV.   Lydia Epangue, Cameroonian Fashion Blogger.   Frédérique Harrel, Cameroonian/French Fashion/Lifestyle Blogger, Entrepreneur, Speaker, Founder of SHE unleashed and Big Hair No Care.   Mimi Mbah, Cameroonian model and glorious clapbacker(LOL)   Funmilola Akande, Nigerian...

OMAWUMI WOWS IN ‘SOMTIN’ VIDEO.

This is some grown folk swag and we’re here for it. Omawumi is on a love PSA. The Nigerian soulful singer, who recently got married, happily lets us know the meaning of true love in her latest single ‘somtin.’ She’s letting the world knows she loves her man and it doesn’t matter what you…you…and you think. Preach on sis! Oooouuuu…the uptempo song is so satisfying, my soul is on some back flips activities right now. Anywhoo, she has just released the video and it’s just as beautuiful as the song. In the video, we see Owawumi and a bunch of her friends and colleagues in the Nigerian entertainment industry just party and have a good time. The cameo list is lit. I have a feeling this song would be our African version of ‘Candy’ by Cameo. I see everyone dancing to it at weddings, with full choreography. Enjoy the video below....

It was through exploring and discovering that she came across numerous fitness and lifestyle blogs which opened her up to her own ideal world . She fell in love immediately.During her spare time, Adeline would enjoy reading through fitness and lifestyle blogs. What intrigued her the most was the fact that the people behind these blogs were living their best lives from the comfort of their homes. She wanted that too. At that point in her life, Adeline was very determined to create an ideal lifestyle for herself, one which she could follow through for the rest of her life. Going through all the fitness blogs, yoga stood out the most. It resonated with her because she wanted to create something that she could do even on her laziest day. SPOTLIGHT: YENIH’S DELITES.

I remember my friend once asked me ‘What does cooking mean to you?’ and I replied “Cooking is a conversation with the soul”. That instantly resonated with her. She later on told that it switched  her mindset to start seeing cooking as a time to connect with her soul rather than a chore. With time, she started noticing great improvements in her cooking( and it had nothing to do with the fancy Wok her partner gave her as present). I love food but more importantly, I love to cook. I’ve always been fascinated about the science behind cooking. How one can can instinctively and rightfully blend spices and food together to make a delicious meal. I love the colours, the textures but most importantly, the taste of food. Through cooking, I realised the best meals come from your gut feeling and not from recipes. I realised your soul needs to be fully awake when cooking.(I realised that’s when the best meals are made, whether freestyle or well-known recipes.) Whether from Bombay to Bafut, the culture behind cooking/food moves me. For over 4 years now, I’ve been documenting my cooking. I’ve created a special segment on this blog where I’ll be sharing pictures and stories of my experiences during the process. With time, I also plan to share recipes so we can all participate in the cooking experience. I hope to entertain, inspire through my love for cooking. Let’s have...
